Skilled workers rarely read long job posts, so a short post with the pay and a phone number does the most work. On eGig the first job post is free, and workers can show photos of past work on their profile. eGig is not a manpower agency. It has few trade workers today, so use it next to the local routes listed here.

Where skilled workers are found
- Government ITIs and polytechnics: placement cells can send you recent pass-outs and apprentices, usually at no charge.
- National Career Service: the government’s portal is free for employers.
- Your own workers: ask for references, and pay a bonus when someone stays.
- Job boards: free job posting sites compared.
- Licensed contractors: faster for a large team, at a higher cost per worker.
Test the skill, not the certificate
Give a short task that matches the job: wire a test board, read a drawing, or set up the machine. Ask to see photos of earlier work. An ITI certificate helps, but a 20-minute practical test tells you more. Some electrical work also requires a licensed supervisor in your state, so check that first.

We could not find the Labour Ministry’s own copy on 31 Oct 2026, so check it before you rely on it. Area B and C rates are lower, and your state publishes its own table, which usually applies to private work.
Questions employers ask
What is the best app to find skilled workers?
It depends on the trade and the city. Big apps such as Apna and WorkIndia reach far more local workers than eGig does today, at a price. National Career Service and ITI placement cells are free. eGig’s first job post is free, and you speak to applicants directly.
Can I hire on a daily wage?
Yes, if you say so in the post and pay at least the minimum wage for that skill level in your state. Agree overtime and weekly offs in advance and keep a record of what you paid.
Should I register workers for PF and ESI?
Generally, PF applies from 20 workers and ESI from 10 workers, and ESI covers staff up to a wage ceiling. The new labour codes have been changing the details, so check with your accountant or labour consultant.
