Hire construction workers

Post the job free on eGig, say the site, the daily or monthly pay and the start date, and workers contact you directly. eGig is a job board, not a manpower agency or labour contractor, so it does not supply a team, and no agency fee is added. For a large gang on one site at short notice, a licensed labour contractor may be faster, and this page says how to check one.

Building work under the central government, from 1 October 2026, as printed in reports of the revised VDA order. We could not find the Labour Ministry’s own copy on 31 Oct 2026, so check it before you rely on it. Area B and C rates are lower, and your state publishes its own table, which usually applies to private work.

Write a post that gets real calls

  • Name the trade and the number: “2 masons and 3 helpers”, not “labour required”.
  • Give the site: area and city, and how long the work lasts.
  • Show the pay: per day or per month, and who pays for food, stay and travel. Every job on eGig must show pay.
  • Say how to reach you: phone or WhatsApp works best for site work. Choose “Call HR” on the quick post.

Estimate the materials too

Free calculators for the same job: concrete, bricks, steel weight, plaster, tiles and paint.

Questions employers ask

Can eGig send workers to my site?

No. eGig is a job board. You post the job and speak to workers directly, and eGig takes no fee from them or from you for the first job post. If you need a contractor to supply and manage a team, ask for their labour licence and their PF and ESI registrations.

Is a free job post enough for labour hiring?

For a few workers near a big city, it can work, but eGig is a small, new site and has few trade workers today. Post here, and also ask at local labour points, ITIs and your existing workers for references.

What should I check before hiring a worker?

See an ID, ask to see earlier work, agree the daily rate and overtime in writing or by message, and pay on time. Workers on your site should be covered by the safety and insurance your contract and state rules require.

Does the Building Workers Act apply to me?

It can. The Building and Other Construction Workers law has been brought under the new labour codes, and it applies from a set number of workers and project cost. Ask your engineer, contractor or a labour consultant about your site, because thresholds and state rules differ.
