How to answer “Do you have any questions for us?”
Your questions show interest and judgement, and they help you decide whether the job is right for you. “No” suggests you are not that interested.
How to answer
- Prepare four or five questions; some may be answered during the interview.
- Ask about the work, the team and how success is measured.
- Leave pay and leave questions for later rounds unless they raise them.
Sample answers
Use these as a starting point. Swap in your own experience and numbers, and practise saying your answer out loud.
About the role
What would a great first three months look like in this role? What are the biggest challenges the person in this job will face?
About the team
How big is the team, and who would I work with most closely? How does the team usually share work and feedback?
About growth
How have other people in this role grown within the company? Is there training for new joiners? What are the next steps in the hiring process?
Mistakes to avoid
- Saying you have no questions.
- Asking things that are clearly on their website.
- Only asking about pay, leave or working from home in a first interview.
Tip: Finish by asking about next steps, so you know when to expect to hear back.
