Free Typing Test: English and Hindi, 1 to 10 Minutes

Check your typing speed and accuracy, with gross and net WPM, for practice before a job or exam.

The clock starts at your first key. Nothing you type leaves your browser. For Hindi, turn on a Hindi keyboard on your device first.

How your speed is worked out

Gross WPM = (characters typed ÷ 5) ÷ minutes. A “word” here means five characters, spaces included.

Net WPM = ((characters typed − errors) ÷ 5) ÷ minutes. Words are checked one by one, so a slip in one word does not count against the next.

Accuracy = (characters typed − errors) ÷ characters typed.

Example: in 5 minutes you type 1,500 characters with 30 errors. Gross speed is 60 WPM, net speed is 58.8 WPM, and accuracy is 98%.

Exams count in different ways: by key presses or by words, with their own limits on mistakes, and often on a set keyboard layout. Treat this as practice. Your notification sets the rules for the real test. Hindi speed here is counted by Unicode characters, which is only a rough match for those rules.

Typing test questions

What is a good typing speed?
Exams and jobs set their own limits, so check the notification for the post you want. For practice, aim for steady speed with high accuracy, and let speed grow from there.
How do I type Hindi on this test?
Turn on a Hindi keyboard on your phone or computer first. Your exam may require a set layout such as Inscript or Remington, so practise on that one.
What is the difference between gross and net speed?
Gross speed counts everything you type. Net speed takes off your errors, so it shows the speed that counts.
Is this test the same as SSC or a government skill test?
No. It is for practice. Real tests have their own passages, software, and rules on errors. Your notification decides.
