Before you upload it to a form
Your notification decides. Sizes change between exams and years, and the ones above come from guides by coaching and exam sites, read on 31 Oct 2026, not from the exam bodies’ own pages. Check them against your notice, and use custom size if it differs.
Some exams want more than a file. SSC’s application has used a photo taken live through the form’s camera, so you may not be able to upload one at all. Read the rules on background, spectacles, and the date of the photo too.
How the size is reached: we set the pixels you chose, then lower the JPEG quality step by step until the file is under the highest KB. If a plain signature comes out under the lowest KB, we add empty padding to the file. The picture itself does not change.
Sources for these sizes: PW, PracticeMock, iFormat. Pixel sizes for UPSC and passport photos are our own defaults within common limits.
