CV format: free Word downloads
A CV format lists your education, skills, work and achievements under clear headings, newest first. In India, most employers use “CV” and “resume” to mean the same thing, so a one or two page CV is right for most jobs. A longer CV is for teaching, research and medical jobs. Download a format below in Word and replace the words in square brackets. It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark.

- List your work and education with the newest first.
- Use clear headings such as Education, Skills and Experience, so people and software can find each part.
- Change the objective or profile for each job. Use the words from the job post, as long as they are true.
- Save it as a PDF to send, and keep the Word file to edit.
Questions about CV formats
What is the difference between a CV and a resume?
In India most employers use the two words for the same thing: a one or two page summary of your education and work. Strictly, a CV is the longer, complete record, used for teaching, research and medical jobs, and a resume is a short page written for one job.
What is the best CV format for freshers?
One page with your objective, education from the latest back, skills, projects, any internship, activities and languages. Marks help when you have little work to show.
How long should a CV be?
One page for freshers, and up to two pages with experience. An academic CV can run as long as your publications and teaching need.
Should I add a photo, date of birth or marital status to my CV?
Not unless the job post asks for them. Most private employers do not need them. Some government and overseas forms have their own rules, so follow those.
Can I download this CV format in Word?
Yes. Each format downloads as an editable Word file, or you can save it as a PDF. There is no sign-up and no watermark.
Should I write “CV” or “Resume” at the top?
Neither is needed. Put your name at the top in large letters, and name the file with your name so it is easy to find.
